Tax Intercept:

1. What is a tax intercept?

A tax refund interception, also referred to as a tax refund offset, is the act of a state agency responsible for sending tax refunds using all or part of a refund to fulfill an obligation of the taxpayer rather than sending the money to the taxpayer him/herself. Where applicable, tax intercepts are authorized by state law and administered by a state agency for debts or obligations owed to other governmental entities.

2. Why were my taxes intercepted?

In accordance with state law, a state agency may allow for an intercept of some financial obligations that have remained unpaid by the taxpayer regarding governmental or vehicle-based debt such as parking violations, toll violations, camera enforced violations.
